PART 11

[“Master? Do you want me to release the Disorders yet?”
“Not yet.  It is still far too early to tell…”
“But what about-”
“-No, Linette.  The government thinks we are creating weapons with enough destructive force to wipe out an entire country.  On the other hand, our true goal would be to design a force for the good of humanity that can ultimately save the world form self destruction…”
“…Transfauna.”]

“Where am I, damnit?” The cold metal floor felt hard against Nate’s back.  In no way did it bring him any comfort.  He should have been warm in his bed, dreaming dreams about triumph and victory, but instead he somehow had gotten himself locked up by the FBI in a secret underground cellar.  Worse of all, he ached of being thrown about and his mind was still fuzzy from the tranquilization.  He couldn’t quite remember what had transpired.  Nate was also beginning to hear voices as well.  They were shouting things like: “I’m coming!” “We’re here.” “Let’s go.” and “Someone’s after us.”
Nate shook his mind clear.  He didn’t need random thoughts polluting his recovering brain at a time like this.
Nate opened his eyes to have a look around.  The room he was in was made of solid steel.  There were obviously no windows, and only one heavy door, which he assumed was locked.  It was a small room, lit only by a single bare light bulb.  The only thing in the room other than him, was a small table at the opposite end, near the door.  It looked as if there was something on top of it, but Nate couldn’t quite tell.
He decided to have a look and tried to lift himself to his feet.  Nate failed miserably, being over taken by dizziness and nausea; he got no further than his knees.  What surprised him though, was that he had not been bound in any way.  He was free to move about the room.  Rather than continue to be sprawled out across the floor, Nate crawled over to examine the table.  A decent-sized covered platter lay on it.
With flourish, he pulled off the lid to find a pile of raw meat underneath, that smelled rotten and old.  He slammed the lid down and forced himself not to retch.  Nate had hoped it was actually something edible.
“I eat cooked food, idiots!” he moaned, slumping against one of the walls.  Until that moment he couldn’t remember why he had even been captured.
He looked at his hands.  He turned them over and over in front of his face, scrutinizing every detail, every hair and every claw.  Nate had changed.  “The FBI must have taken up experimenting on teenagers…” mumbled Nate, scratching the dried blood off.  He remembered mauling one of the men to death, and being brutally attacked by others.  It just wasn’t adding up, though.  Why him?
“Nathan. Don’t move,” said a strict voice at the door. “Stand up, and place your hands against the wall.  We will bring in food to your liking.  If you move, we will not hesitate to shoot you.  Do you understand?”
“Yes,” responded Nate, attempting once more to get to his feet.  This time he was successful, using the table for support.  He walked to the wall opposite the door and placed his palms, flat against the steel.  He listened as the door behind him opened, and closed in only a matter of seconds.  He could not see who had entered and left.
“You may move now,” said the voice again, before the sound of footsteps chambered away.  Nate signed and limped over to the table, nursing his sore ribs.  To his surprise a gold platter had been placed in front of him.  It was piled high with steak, vegetables, and next to it was even some chocolate ice cream.  A bottle of soda had also been brought in, as well as eating utensils.
“I could get used to this!” beamed Nate, kneeling on the floor.  The food smelled very good, and he didn’t bother checking for any sort of poisons.  If they wanted to kill him, they would have done it by now.  As Nate was eating, only a single thought came to mind. “Umm…I don’t suppose there’s a bathroom in here?”

“No!” cried Shiny, spinning about high above the gray clouds. “Where did he go?”  The sensation of  strengthening wind between her feathers had caught her off guard.  It sent Shiny tumbling through the air and it took her a moment to right herself.
She had suddenly lost most sensation of Nate’s presence, and could only feel him every now and then.  It all depended on where he had been moved.  Either that or he was close to death,  but Shiny knew that was out of the question.  Nate was strong.  He would be able to stay alive.
Suddenly his presence grew dominant once gain. She could easily pick it out of the others that all seemed to be heading in his direction.  It was as if they were all preparing to join together to save him.  But the question that still remained was ‘why?’  Why did they have such a strong connection with each other?  Why were there so many?  Why were they created?  These unanswered questions rolled about in Shiny’s brain until she almost flew head first into a jet.

“John…where are we?”
“How the hell should I know?”
“Because it was your idea to go this way in the first place!  I thought you knew where we were going.”
“Oh…nope.  I just wanted to go this way.  The other way looked like it would take longer.”
Tim smacked his forehead.  They were lost somewhere close to New York City, but neither of them was quite sure where.  All the while, Tim marveled at his new found endurance and John’s everlasting energy.  It was simply amazing.  They had been given amazing gifts and new talents for an unknown purpose, but all they knew was that something was drawing them together.  At the same time, there was also something tearing them apart.
“Tim?  What do you think those guys wanted from us?” asked John, stopping to tie one of his shoes.  He had the urge to just throw them off right there and climb trees, but he thought better of it.
“I know it has something to do with this new form we are in…” mumbled Tim, “But it looks like we aren’t welcome.”
John looked up at him with a blank expression, “Where are we welcome?”
“I don’t know John…I just don’t know…”
“It seems we’re about to find out!” cried John, leaping to the side.  Tim looked back to see four men in black carrying net-guns and more.  They moved so swiftly, it gave him no time to think about his actions.  As they neared, he heard John shout, “They have surrounded us!”
“We can’t let them get to us!” roared Tim dropping to all-fours once more.  He showed his teeth and dug his nails into the concrete.  His eyes glazed over with hatred and disgust.
“I’m with you!” agreed John, prepping himself as well.  He was a little anxious because of the lack of trees for him to climb, but he could still put up a fight.
“Stand down, and we will not harm you,” announced one of the men, stepping forward.  In one hand he held an unusual gun and in the other was a net.  His face could not be seen, but it was assumed he was not happy with their prior evasion.  Tim and John took a moment to look at each other… before springing forward to attack.  The instinct to hunt, and to kill was so strong, neither boy could ignore the intoxicating feeling.  They fed off of not fear, but excitement.  The men’s’ voices beaconed to them.
Tim couldn’t hold back.  He wove back and forth, between parked cars and garbage cans and tackled one of the men with ease.  John, on the other hand, took his time, circling the man to his right, before shoving him out the way to help Tim.  Tim had sunk his nails into the chest of his target, but he frowned as they hit metal.  So he set to work clawing at the man’s face, until a shot was fired.  Tim fled, just in time to miss being ensnared by a net gun.  For some reason, John and Tim must have been wanted alive.  Tim didn’t have time to think about their motivations for capture tough, because while John had hoped to come to his rescue, he was captured by an electrified webbing.  His cries of pain enraged Tim even more.  Tim slapped his forehead again.  He would have to play the role of the hero.  It was just not his usual.
